Yes We Can

I’ll stop beating this drum after this post, but I stumbled upon the song below earlier today, and I wanted to share it. There’s a good chance a lot of you have already seen this; frankly, I don’t know how I missed it. Aside from the Hollywood glad-handing inherent in the video, I found the composition very moving.

Having watched it, the thing I’ve been thinking, is that this isn’t about Obama. It’s about us, as a nation, red state, blue state, doesn’t matter.

And it’s not about the election. It’s about what comes next. What we do next.

And then there’s this line:

“But in the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope.”

That may be one of the most beautiful, patriotic sentiments I’ve ever heard.

    I love this song.

    I love this so much.

And that’s the same line that sticks in my head.

They’re selling a T-shirt on Cafe Press that says “There has never been anything false about hope.”

Christina and I are likely to pick up a pair.

Sadly, it doesn’t include the “unlikely story that is America” part, which gives it so much of it’s lyrical and patriotic power.

I heard this first on a website that had, of all things, a mock of Palin as President (http://www.palinaspresident.us/never/index.html)

Since the election, they’ve changed it:

    I thought I was done crying…

Somehow that video has become even more powerful knowing now that it is not “Yes, we can” but “Yes, we did”.

Speaking of powerful political pieces, I stumbled across this moving video about the rise of “Generation We”. As a twenty year old, I broke down about halfway through.

Wow. I’d never heard that before. He sure knows how to stir the deepest part of ourselves, doesn’t he?

I don’t know how many of you have seen the speech all of that is from. It was his concession speech in New Hampshire in January.

Some people think he really took off when he won Iowa. Others say it was when he won South Carolina. But for me, he took off here – in defeat in New Hampshire, when he took defeat and turned it into “Yes We Can.”

Amazing speech. Most of what’s in the music video occurs after about 9:00 or 9:30.
