Just a Thought

My father sent me this quote today:

“Representative government and trial by jury are the heart and lungs of liberty. Without them we have no other fortification against being ridden like horses, fleeced like sheep, worked like cattle, and fed and clothed like swine and hounds.”
~John Adams, 1774

Liked it so much, just had to share.

I’m always amazed at how on-the-money a quote from over 200 years ago can be in our current climate.

Look. Ben Franklin was clearly more pimp, but John Adams was the MOTHERUCKING MAN. I never, ever get tired of reading Adams, Jefferson, et al.

Also, Greg. Hey, Greg. Crime Bible. You are getting me to like Renee again.

I’m about to pimp it all over the damn place.

And that’s why he’s my Favorite Founding Father.

All of the founding fathers still impress the hell out of me.

Speaking of Adamses — Abigail would’ve loved your avatar here. Mind if I steal it?

No kidding. I dug out a couple of albums from 20 years ago, and it’s the same thing. Everything old is new again.

You would think we’d learn, tho, wouldn’t you?

    We’ll see what you think after issue 2…and 3…and 4…and especially 5.

But, please, in the name of God, pimp away!!!!

By Shiva’s topknot, I *am.* I just typed seven thousand words of meta at when she foolishly asked me for some reading recommendations since she’s just now getting into comics outside the Batverse, and your name came up. A LOT.

Also, Wizard Magazine. What’s a fangirl to do in these dark times of reactionary “retreat to the battlements” mentality from magazines like that?

I am almost afraid to ask what Wizard‘s done this time. If it’s the “men’s magazine” BS, I’d heard about that already.

Ah, to sleep perchance to dream, my friend. I think learning in the upper echelons came to a screeching halt well before we entered the world…

Please do! I made it from the promo art for the HBO movie Iron-Jawed Angels about the Suffragettes (highly recommended if you haven’t seen it).

    And the pimpage, it commences!

And the pimpage, it commences! Let’s call this Part 1 of…well, I’ll be honest. Part 1 of probably 17 over the course of the next two weeks. Take a bow, sir.

Yes, the “men’s magazine.” I have to say, I was honestly shocked when I first about it, the kind of shock where all the blood drains from my extremities and I just sit there, uncomprehending as to how the editorial staff and ownership could possibly see this as a good move. It gets my Jean Grey crying Phoenix tears icon.

Us girls will have to start the girl’s version of Wizard, but make it gender neutral at the same time. Kind of like how the girls took over Gearhead magazine in San Francisco and started publishing Girlyhead.

Re: And the pimpage, it commences!

I shall peruse said pimpage shortly, and I thank you for it.

As for the last…you publish it, I’ll buy it!

Haven’t seen it; will add to list promptly. Thank you for the recommendation and the avatar!

I often wonder how our Founding Fathers would view todays politics and what they’d do to change things.
