Greg talks Punisher with Newsarama

Greg talked with Newsarama about his upcoming work with Frank Castle, dealing with the character in a super-hero universe, building on the work of previous Punisher writers, and working with Marco Checchetto. Here’s a taste:

Nrama: Yeah, I think that Greg Rucka on Punisher seems like a natural choice on one level, but for whatever reason, I don’t think it’s something that people necessarily expected.

Rucka: Yeah. I think it’s more a throwback to Gotham Central-era writing for me. It’s very street-level, and it’s very human. The emotions involved are very restrained in a lot of aspects, and very real in a lot of aspects, and I always find it more comfortable for my own purposes to write “on the ground,” for lack of a better phrase.

I’ve never read a Punisher book though I’ve always wanted to check it out. You writing it gives me all the incentive I need to stop thinking about it and do it. I’m glad to see you seem excited about this project! Best of luck, Mr. Rucka!

I’ve no great affinity for the Punisher, but when I heard who was writing, I was sold. The previews of Marco Checchetto’s art only confirms how good it will be (no pressure :) ). Can I ask if regular issues will be 22 page stories or 20 pagers? I’ve noticed Marvel have moved to 20 pagers on some books, so I’m just curious if Punisher will be the same.

In any case, I’m really looking forward to it, and the very best of luck with the book!
